Palais de Rumine

At his death, Gabriel Rumine son of Russian princes, to supply the city of Lausanne 1.5 million francs for the construction of a building utilities. The building began in 1892 following plans of architect Andre Gaspard Lyon. It opened November 3, 1902, but not completed until 1904. It houses various services while at the University of Lausanne (UNIL), including its library. It also houses collections of science and art of the city of Canton. In the 1980s, given the lack of space, the university was moved to its present site at Dorigny, the lake and the palace of ruminants has been restructured.

Today, the Palais de Rumine houses the cantonal museums of fine art,geology, zoology, archaeology and history, the Cantonal Money Museum,and the cantonal and university library.
